Pregnancy & Postpartum causes all sorts of changes to your body as you know it. Some of these changes are beautiful and miraculous, others… less glamorous and frankly uncomfortable!
Looking after your digestion and bowel health has never been more important during this time. Constipation is a common side effect of pregnancy and can continue even after you have your baby. Here’s a simple recipe adapted from my great-grandmother’s recipe book.
Sometimes the old ways are the right ways.
I love the simple combination of dried fruits, all with protective polyphenols, minerals and fibre – which help your body, bones and bowels.
Ingredients
- 200g each of raisins, pitted dates, prunes, fresh or dried figs
- 1 cup honey
- 1 cup treacle or black strap molasses
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
Method
Put all dried fruit in a small saucepan and boil for 5 mins. Add cinnamon and stir well.
Allow to cool before transferring to a glass jar or container. Store in the fridge for 2-3 weeks. Take 1 teaspoon morning and night.
